The Kentucky Historical Markers Database is based on the book Roadside History: A Guide to Kentucky Highway Markers, compiled by Diane Wells and edited by Melba Porter Hay & Thomas H. Appleton, Jr.; published by the Kentucky Historical Society, Frankfort, 2002.

The online edition operates on a database that is updated and edited as needed, so it contains the most complete and current information.
