    The Office of the State Climatologist and the Kentucky Energy and Environment Cabinet, in coordination with the Kentucky Drought Mitigation Team, are issuing a Level I drought declaration for three drought management areas (DMAs) in western Kentucky.

    Reports of excessive gravel removal from Kentucky streams have prompted the Kentucky Division of Water (DOW) to reiterate creek gravel extraction guidelines to minimize impacts on the physical, chemical and biological characteristics of the waterway.

    The Kentucky Division of Water (DOW) has released the 2012 Kentucky Nonpoint Source (NPS) Management Plan for public review. This document is required by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for states that receive federal funding for NPS programs and projects through the Clean Water Act Section 319(h) Program.

    The Kentucky Watershed Watch Program is offering free training April 28 to persons interested in learning how to take water samples and monitor water quality in the Upper Green River Basin. The training will take place at Western Kentucky University.
  • Seven water treatment systems selected for improvement funding

    Seven small drinking water treatment systems in Kentucky will receive financial assistance through a new program designed to improve their technical, managerial and financial capabilities to ensure production of safe drinking water in a consistent, cost-effective manner. Small systems are those that serve fewer than 10,000 customers. The awards range from $2,000 to $25,000.
  • Federal grant will help restore Kinniconick Creek

    The Kentucky State Nature Preserves Commission (KSNPC) has been awarded a $342,881 federal grant to develop a sediment-focused watershed plan and stream restoration design for Kinniconick Creek in Lewis County.
