Local Girl to Compete in Tumbling Championship in Maysville
Maysville will host a sanctioned regional championship tumbling and trampoline competition on Jan. 7, 2006 expected to bring about 500 people to the Northern Kentucky town. The event is open to the public with competition beginning at 8 a.m. and ending at 6 p.m. The “Flips Ahoy Invitational” is hosted by the Mid-American Club, which selected Maysville because of its central location to competing teams from five states: Kentucky, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois and Tennessee. Organizers are hoping for this to become an annual event in Maysville, according to Marla Toncray Baxter, assistant director of the Maysville-Mason County Tourism Commission. A local connection to Maysville in the United States Trampoline & Tumbling Association (USTA) championship is Lacee Mefford, 12, of Maysville. A member of the Mid-American Trampoline & Tumbling Club and a student at Mason County Middle School, Lacee is a three-time USTA and Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) National Champion. She is a member of the AAU National Trampoline & Tumbling team, which consists of the top 36 child competitors in the country. Lacee is the daughter of Sherrie and Billy Mefford of Maysville. USTA is planning to hold its National Championship in Louisville June 21-25, 2006. The event is open to the public with competition beginning at 8 a.m. and ending at 6 p.m. For more information, contact Sherrie Mefford at 606-584-8073. Baxter can be reached at 606-564-9419.
