- Governor Beshear Announces Expansion of Bekaert Corporation in Shelbyville
Wednesday, March 10, 2010 FRANKFORT, Ky. (March 9, 2010) – Gov. Steve Beshear and Cabinet for Economic Development Secretary Larry Hayes today announced the expansion of Bekaert Corporation in Shelbyville. The company, which manufactures drawn steel wire products, will create 10 new jobs as a result of the expansion and invest more than $2 million in the Commonwealth.
- Governor Beshear Announces Location of Metalworks Recycle-Reload and Expansion of Owl’s Head Alloys in Bowling Green
Tuesday, March 02, 2010 BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (March 2, 2010) – Gov. Steve Beshear today joined community and business leaders in Bowling Green to announce two economic development projects: the location of Metalworks Recycle-Reload and the expansion of Owl’s Head Alloys. The new and expanding manufacturing projects will create a combined 50 new jobs and represent a more than $5.1 million investment in the Commonwealth.
- Governor Beshear Announces Major Expansion for Bremner Food Group in Princeton
Tuesday, March 02, 2010 PRINCETON, Ky. (March 2, 2010) – Gov. Steve Beshear today joined company and community leaders in Princeton to announce the expansion of Bremner Food Group, the nation’s largest supplier of private label cookies and crackers. Bremner Food Group, a subsidiary of Ralcorp Holdings, will install new production lines, relocate production lines from other facilities and increase its warehouse space to handle increased capacity. The expansion project will result in 111 new full-time jobs and represents an investment of $62.1 million in the Commonwealth.

Tuesday, March 02, 2010 PADUCAH, Ky. (March 2, 2010) – Gov. Steve Beshear today joined community and business leaders in Paducah to make three positive economic development announcements for the community. The first is the expansion of Paducah & Louisville Railway’s headquarters operation. The full-service, 265-mile regional railroad will construct a new administrative facility, creating 10 new full-time jobs and investing more than $4.2 million in the Commonwealth.
- Governor Beshear Announces Two Start-Up Energy Firms to Receive Funding from Kentucky New Energy Ventures Fund
Monday, March 01, 2010 SOMERSET, Ky. (March 1, 2010) – Gov. Steve Beshear today announced two Kentucky companies have been awarded a combined $530,000 in funding from the Kentucky New Energy Ventures Fund. The state program provides public funds to promising, early-stage Kentucky companies developing and commercializing alternative fuels and renewable energy technologies.

Friday, February 26, 2010 HENDERSON, Ky. (Feb. 26, 2010) – Gov. Steve Beshear today visited Rio Tinto Alcan’s aluminum smelter in Sebree to tout the state’s aluminum industry and promote future opportunities for the industry in Kentucky. Gov. Beshear was joined by officials from Rio Tinto Alcan, one of only a handful of aluminum smelters remaining in the United States, and representatives of the Kentucky Aluminum Network, a not-for-profit membership organization of Kentucky aluminum producers.
- Governor Beshear Announces Funding Award to Lexington Biotech Company
Thursday, February 25, 2010 FRANKFORT, Ky. (Feb. 25, 2010) – Gov. Steve Beshear today announced the award of $120,000 from the Cabinet for Economic Development’s High-Tech Investment Pool to Lexington-based ParaTechs Corporation. The biotechnology company, which is a client of the Lexington Innovation and Commercialization Center, creates products used for protein production for use in vaccines and therapeutics. ParaTechs anticipates creating seven new high-tech jobs paying an average annual salary of at least $55,000.
- Governor Beshear, Mayor Abramson Announce Startup of Three New Companies in Louisville
Tuesday, February 23, 2010 LOUISVILLE, Ky. (Feb. 23, 2010) – Gov. Steve Beshear and Louisville Mayor Jerry Abramson today joined company officials from TRAX Mechanical Systems, Liberty Processing and Services Innovation and Bio Pharma Logistics, all startup companies, to announce they will begin operations in Louisville. The new projects will result in a combined 145 new jobs and nearly $13.5 million in the Commonwealth.

Tuesday, February 16, 2010 LOUISVILLE, Ky. (Feb. 16, 2010) – Gov. Steve Beshear and Louisville Mayor Jerry Abramson today joined Grindmaster-Cecilware officials in Louisville to announce the expansion of the company’s 116,000 square-foot facility. Grindmaster-Cecilware anticipates creating 33 new, full-time jobs and will invest more than $1.6 million in the Commonwealth.

Wednesday, February 10, 2010 FRANKFORT, Ky. (Feb. 10, 2010) – Citing Toyota’s long history as an exemplary corporate citizen in Kentucky and other states, Gov. Steve Beshear challenged Washington lawmakers to give the automaker “a responsible and fair response from the federal government” as Congress prepares to hold hearings on the automaker’s safety recalls. Gov. Beshear initiated conversations with governors, which resulted in a letter to federal lawmakers, signed by Gov. Beshear and three other governors with Toyota operations in their states.

Monday, February 01, 2010 MORGANTOWN, Ky. (Feb. 1, 2010) – Gov. Steve Beshear and Economic Development Cabinet officials today joined company and community leaders in Morgantown to commence the grand opening of Blackhawk Composites, Inc. a startup manufacturer of advanced aerospace composite parts. Gov. Beshear announced Blackhawk Composites’ plans to begin manufacturing operations in Butler County last October resulting in 20 new jobs initially, growing to 30 within the first year. The project also represents a more than $1.5 million investment in the Commonwealth.

- Bowling Green and Lexington High-Tech Companies Awarded Funding for Medical Technologies
Thursday, January 28, 2010 FRANKFORT, Ky. (Jan. 28, 2010) – Two Kentucky high-tech companies were awarded a combined $275,000 in funding today from the Cabinet for Economic Development’s High-Tech Investment Pool. The Kentucky Economic Development Finance Authority (KEDFA) approved Xhale Inc. and Connected Patients LLC for state funding of up to $175,000 and $100,000 respectively to assist in the expansion of the companies. The two projects are anticipated to create a combined 21 new high-tech jobs.

Monday, January 25, 2010 FRANKFORT, Ky. (Jan. 25, 2010) – Gov. Steve Beshear today announced that nine Kentucky high-tech companies will share nearly $2.2 million in state funds as part of a Kentucky initiative to attract and support technology-based small businesses. Through the state’s competitive SBIR-STTR Matching Funds program, Kentucky matches federal SBIR-STTR awards received by Kentucky companies or those willing to relocate to Kentucky. This round of state awards supplements more than $6 million in federal funding made to the firms.

Steve Beshear today announced new, professional jobs are coming to Elizabethtown with the expansion of Akebono Brake Corporation’s headquarters. Joined by Cabinet for Economic Development Secretary Larry Hayes, community leaders and company officials, Akebono Corporation said it would add 70 new jobs to its administrative offices as a result of discussions between Gov. Beshear and Akebono Corporation officials in Japan during the governor’s October 2009 economic development trip.

Thursday, January 07, 2010 FRANKFORT, Ky. (Jan. 7, 2010) – Gov. Steve Beshear today visited Curtis Maruyasu (MARY’-oss) America, an automotive industry supplier, in Lebanon, Ky., to announce that jobs for 416 Kentucky families will be saved because of the state’s efforts to retain Kentucky’s existing industry. Curtis Maruyasu America will retool its Marion County facility, investing nearly $11 million and preserving 416 jobs.

Tuesday, January 05, 2010 FRANKFORT, Ky. (January 5, 2010) – Gov. Steve Beshear and Cabinet for Economic Development Secretary Larry Hayes today announced Kentucky-based Rare Breed Distilling will construct a new 20,000 space barrel storage warehouse at its Wild Turkey® distillery in Lawrenceburg. This new project will add to Wild Turkey’s storage capacity for its maturing whiskey products and will entail a nearly $2.3 million investment in the Commonwealth.
