Independent, political organization and political group candidates running for offices on the ballot in November must file their petitions of nomination and pay the filing fee by August 11, 2015. The paperwork must be received by filing official by 4 p.m. local time.

“I encourage all interested individuals to complete their filings as soon as possible to allow time to address any problems with their paperwork,” said Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes.

Statewide constitutional offices – Governor/Lieutenant Governor, Secretary of State, Attorney General, Auditor of Public Accounts, State Treasurer, and Commissioner of Agriculture – will be on the November 3 General Election ballot. Independent, political organization and political group candidates for those offices were required to file a statement of candidacy form no later than April 1, 2015, to be qualified.

In addition, unexpired terms for the offices of Commonwealth’s Attorney (56th Judicial Circuit), Justice of the Supreme Court (7th Supreme Court District), Circuit Judge (42nd Circuit, 1st Division), and District Judge (30th Circuit, 4th Division) will appear on the November 3 ballot. Candidates for those unexpired terms were not required to file a statement of candidacy.

Candidates for statewide constitutional office, judicial office and commonwealth’s attorney in a circuit that is comprised of more than one county must file their candidacy papers with the Secretary of State.

There may be additional unexpired terms for offices that file with the county clerk that will be on the ballot November 3. Individuals who may want to run for those offices should contact their county clerk for additional information.

“The Secretary of State’s office is always ready to assist potential candidates with questions they may have,” said Grimes. “We hope to see continued interest in serving Kentuckians in public office.”

Following the August 11 filing deadline, public drawings for ballot position will be held in the filing officials’ offices at 2:00 p.m. on August 13.
