Secretary Grimes Extends Deadline for Civic Education Award
Due to inclement weather that closed schools across Kentucky last week, Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes is extending the deadline for nominations for the 2015 Kentucky Outstanding Civic Education Leadership Award to March 6, 2015. Nominations and applications must be emailed to or received by the Secretary of State’s office by that date to be considered.
The award recognizes teachers, school administrators, legislators and community leaders who have made significant contributions toward promoting civic learning to teach students the importance of being engaged citizens. The award winner will receive a $1,000 cash prize to be used to further his or her civic learning initiatives or progam. One finalist will be selected from each Kentucky High School Athletic Association region, and the winner and each finalist will receive a plaque and be recognized during the KHSAA Boy’s Sweet 16 Basketball Tournament in Lexington.
“There are so many inspiring educators in Kentucky, and we want to make sure there is ample time to share their stories with us so we can recognize their selfless dedication to Kentucky’s youth,” said Grimes.
Application/Nomination forms and additional information about the award are available at www.sos.ky.gov. The Office of the Secretary of State is proud to sponsor this award with the Administrative Office of the Courts and the Kentucky Department of Education.
