Thursday, December 15, 2011 The Kentucky Public Service Commission (PSC) today accepted broad-based settlements in two cases establishing new environmental compliance plans and associated environmental surcharges for Kentucky Utilities Co. (KU) and Louisville Gas & Electric Co. (LG&E). The compliance plans are intended to meet the requirements of several U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulations affecting coal-burning electric power plants.

Thursday, November 17, 2011 The Kentucky Public Service Commission (PSC) has approved a settlement that allows Kenergy Corp. to adjust its base rates in order to increase annual revenue by about $1.8 million, or approximately 0.4 percent. The settlement does not affect rate adjustments Kenergy will make to pass through an increase in the wholesale cost of the electricity it purchases from Big Rivers Electric Corp.

Thursday, November 17, 2011 The Kentucky Public Service Commission (PSC) has authorized Big Rivers Electric Corp. to adjust its wholesale rates in order in order to increase annual revenue by approximately $26.75 million, or about 6 percent. In orders issued today, the PSC also approved pass-through rate increases for the three electric distribution cooperatives that purchase power from Big Rivers – Jackson Purchase Energy Cooperative, Kenergy Corp. and Meade County Rural Electric Cooperative Corp.

Wednesday, November 09, 2011 The Kentucky Public Service Commission (PSC) has approved an expansion of residential and commercial energy conservation and efficiency programs for Kentucky Utilities Co. (KU) and Louisville Gas & Electric Co. (LG&E). In an order issued today, the PSC authorized KU and LG&E to continue 10 existing programs for residential or commercial customers and to initiate three new programs for residential customers. One of the new programs will provide incentives for the purchase of energy-efficient appliances.

Thursday, November 03, 2011 The Kentucky Public Service Commission (PSC) will hold a public evidentiary hearing next week on the environmental compliance plans and associated environmental surcharge requests submitted by Kentucky Utilities Co. Thursday, October 06, 2011 The Kentucky Public Service Commission (PSC) today directed Kentucky’s jurisdictional electric utilities to adopt the federal standard that requires consideration of the use of advanced “Smart Grid” technologies whenever they invest in their transmission and distribution systems. It also set a Kentucky standard requiring the inclusion of energy efficiency on an equal footing with the addition of generating capacity in the long-range plans, known as Integrated Resource Plans (IRPs), submitted to the PSC by electric utilities in Kentucky.

Wednesday, September 14, 2011 An independent review ordered by the Kentucky Public Service Commission (PSC) has found numerous problems with customer service operations at Louisville Gas and Electric Co. (LG&E) and Kentucky Utilities Co. (KU). In a report issued today by the PSC, an outside consultant noted that the two utilities – the largest in Kentucky – are regularly failing to meet their own internal performance standards. The report makes specific recommendations to correct the shortcomings.

Friday, August 26, 2011 The Kentucky Public Service Commission (PSC) will hold public meetings next month in Henderson, Louisville, Lexington and Corbin to receive public comments on environmental compliance plans and associated environmental surcharge requests submitted by Kentucky Utilities Co. (KU) and Louisville Gas & Electric Co. (LG&E). The public comment meetings will be preceded by an information session during which PSC staff will explain the environmental compliance review process and the legal basis for the surcharge, which applies only to electric rates. The presentation will include an overview of the KU and LG&E applications.

Steve Beshear has issued a proclamation designating today as Kentucky 8-1-1 Underground Facility Protection Day. “Kentucky has made a concerted effort to reduce the number of incidents of excavators hitting buried utility lines,” Gov. Beshear said. “But it is clear that we still have work to do in increasing awareness of the call-before-you-dig requirements in state law and in promoting the use of the 811 statewide toll-free telephone number to request marking of buried utility lines.”
