Tuesday, April 30, 2013 The Kentucky Public Service Commission (PSC) has granted a request by Kentucky Frontier Gas Co. for an adjustment that will equalize rates for customers throughout its system. The new rates and two surcharges will increase bills for Kentucky Frontier’s 3,400 customers, although the size of the increase will vary substantially among Kentucky Frontier’s 10 distribution systems.
- PSC to Take Public Comments on Proposal by Kentucky Power to Replace Big Sandy Plant: Utility seeks to purchase replacement generating capacity from sister company
Wednesday, April 24, 2013 The Kentucky Public Service Commission will offer opportunities next month for members of the public to provide comments regarding the proposal by Kentucky Power Co. to purchase replacement electric generating capacity in order to retire the Big Sandy generating facility near Louisa. A public meeting will be held Tuesday, May 14 in Louisa. On Wednesday, May 15, the PSC will conduct a teleconference linking sites in Whitesburg and Hazard with the commission offices in Frankfort.

Wednesday, April 17, 2013 Governor Steve Beshear has issued a proclamation designating April as “Safe Digging Month” in Kentucky. By designating April as Safe Digging Month, Gov. Beshear said he hopes to promote and increase the use of the 811 statewide toll-free telephone number to request marking of buried utility lines
- PSC Grants Rate Adjustment to Taylor County RECC - Bills to go up by less than 2%, half as much as requested by coop
Tuesday, March 26, 2013 The Kentucky Public Service Commission (PSC) has granted Taylor County Rural Electric Cooperative Corp. (Taylor County RECC) a rate increase that is about half as large as the amount requested by the utility. The PSC authorized Taylor County RECC to increase its monthly residential service charge by $1.88.
- PSC OKs Kentucky-American Water Pipeline to Owenton - Cost recovery to be determined in rate case
Thursday, February 28, 2013 The Kentucky Public Service Commission (PSC) has authorized Kentucky- American Water Co. to build a pipeline that will connect its customers in the Owenton area to the company’s water treatment plant on the Kentucky River in Owen County. However, the PSC did not determine how Kentucky-American will recover the cost of the new facilities and how those costs will be allocated.

Tuesday, February 05, 2013 Louisville Gas & Electric Co. (LG&E) will pay a $125,000 penalty to the Kentucky Public Service Commission (PSC) in settlement of alleged safety violations that were uncovered during the PSC’s investigation of a Dec. 6, 2011 natural gas explosion that destroyed a house in southern Jefferson County.

Thursday, January 31, 2013 The Kentucky Public Service Commission (PSC) will hold a hearing on Thursday, Feb. 14, to consider the request by Kentucky Frontier Gas Co. to equalize rates for customers throughout its system. If approved, the new rates and two additional surcharges would result in increased bills for Kentucky Frontier’s 3,400 customers, although the size of the increase will vary substantially among Kentucky Frontier’s 10 distribution systems.
- PSC Largely Reaffirms Big Rivers Electric Rate Decision -Rehearing of 2011 rate case results in minor adjustments
Tuesday, January 29, 2013 The Kentucky Public Service Commission (PSC) today largely reaffirmed its November 2011 decision in a rate adjustment case for Big Rivers Electric Corp., including how revenue is allocated among the utility’s customer classes. The PSC’s 2011 decision reduced the extent to which two aluminum smelters that are Big Rivers’ largest customers subsidize service to residential and small commercial customers. But the subsidy reduction was far less than the $11 million sought by the smelters.
- PSC Allows Separate Accounting of Kentucky Power Storm Costs - No guarantee of recovery through future rates
Tuesday, January 08, 2013 The Kentucky Public Service Commission (PSC) today allowed Kentucky Power Co. to establish a separate account to track power restoration costs and other expenses associated with recovery from the damage caused by four major storms that struck the company’s service territory in 2012. The account, known as a regulatory asset, is a tool that allows unusual or one-time costs to be deferred for a period of time for possible future recovery through rates.
- PSC Accepts Settlement in LG&E and KU Rate Cases - Rate increases will be smaller than requested
Thursday, December 20, 2012 The Kentucky Public Service Commission today accepted a settlement granting revenue adjustments that increase the base electric rates for customers of Kentucky Utilities Co. and the base electric and natural gas rates for customers of Louisville Gas and Electric Co. The revenue adjustments are at levels agreed to by the two utilities, the Kentucky Office of Attorney General and other parties to the utilities’ rate cases, among them the Kentucky Industrial Utility Customers Inc., Kroger Co., the Kentucky School Boards Association and advocates for low-income consumers.

Thursday, December 20, 2012 The Kentucky Public Service Commission (PSC) today accepted a settlement that allows Northern Kentucky Water District to increase annual revenue by a total of 6.77 percent over the next 13 months.
- PSC Selects Overlay for New Area Code in Western Kentucky: Current numbers in area code 270 remain unchanged; decision means 10-digit dialing for local calls beginning in 2014
Monday, December 17, 2012 A new area code 364 in western Kentucky will occupy the same geographic area as the current area code 270. It is the first area code overlay in Kentucky.
