State Investing About $1 Million in Upgrades at Pine Mountain State Resort
FRANKFORT, Ky. – Pine Mountain State Resort Park, the oldest park in the Kentucky Park system, is getting some serious sprucing up.
Twenty guest rooms at the resort, which is located in Pineville, Ky., are being completely renovated. This includes new furniture, bedding, carpet, and bathroom fixtures, among other things. Additionally, the park’s lodge has received new carpet in its dining room, lounge and meeting rooms. The dining room chairs and tables also have been reupholstered and refinished as part of the project.
Two years ago the lodge’s other 10 rooms were renovated. This work will round out that project. Work will continue throughout the rest of this month.
Several other projects are in various stages of development at the state’s first park, including the following:
• An aging sewer line has been replaced. • Restrooms will be built at the Wasioto Winds golf course. • Logs at the historic log cabins built in the 1930s by the Civilian Conservation Corps will be painted and repaired. • The park’s nature center will be renovated. • Drainage will be improved at the Wasioto Winds golf course.
Altogether, these projects represent an investment of about $1 million at Pineville State Resort Park. All the work is being financed through a $35 million bond issue approved by the Kentucky General Assembly in 2005.
Founded in 1926, Pine Mountain is located in Pineville off US 25E.
The Kentucky State Park System is composed of 52 state parks plus an interstate park shared with Virginia. The Department of Parks, an agency of the Commerce Cabinet, operates 17 resort parks with lodges -- more than any other state. Each year, Kentucky parks draw 7 million visitors and contribute $317 million to the economy. For more information on Kentucky parks, visit our Web site at http://www.parks.ky.gov
