Greenbo to Host Trade Day and Stuart Play in September
GREENUP, Ky. -- Greenbo Lake State Resort Park will host a Camper’s Trade Day and stage a production of a play based on Jesse Stuart’s work on separate weekends in September.
On Friday and Saturday, Sept. 11-12, 2009, Greenbo will provide campers the opportunity to sell handicrafts or years’ worth of unwanted collectables. You must be camping at the park to set up a trading/selling area, and camp sites must be cleaned up before departure on Sunday Sept. 13. No food or drink is to be sold, and no firearms are permitted. Campers will be treated to a free bean dinner on Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. The public is invited to shop Saturday 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.
The following weekend, Sept. 18-20, 2009, Greenbo Lake Amphitheatre will host “A Penny’s Worth of Character,” a magical family play with music freely adapted from the original children’s story and “Kentucky Is My Land” by Jesse Stuart. The play will start at 7 p.m. on Sept. 18-19 and at 3 p.m. on Sept. 20. Admission is $8 for adults, $5 for senior citizens, and free for children 12 years and under. Script, lyrics, and concepts are by James William Rodgers with music composed and arranged by Jay Flippin. The production promises three days of great family entertainment. Bring your lawn chairs and blankets with you. The event is sponsored by the Greenup “Growing With the Arts”.

Greenbo Lake State Resort Park is on KY 1, 18 miles north of I-64 from Grayson exit or 8 miles south of U.S. 23 The Country Music Highway on KY 1. Greenbo Lake features the Jesse Stuart Lodge with 36 rooms, Gift Shop, and Anglers’ Cove Restaurant. The park has a 225 acre lake for boating and fishing, tennis courts, 25 miles of multi-use trails for hiking, biking, and horseback riding. Newly renovated campground is open April thru October. Greenbo Amphitheatre features musical concerts and plays during the summer and fall.
