Greenbo Jr. Fishing Tournament and Junk Band Concert Promise Free Midsummer Fun

GREENUP, Ky. – Two free midsummer events scheduled for Greenbo Lake State Resort Park will provide fun for young anglers and connoisseurs of roots rock music.

On Saturday July 25, 2009, Greenbo will sponsor a free Junior Fishing Tournament for anglers 15 years old and under. Registration starts at 8:00 a.m. and the fishing tournament starts at 10:00 a.m. and lasts till noon. No fishing in boats is permitted.

Prizes will be awarded in each age group for the biggest fish caught and the most fish caught. Age groups are 3 – 5, 6 – 8, 9 – 12, and 13 – 15, for both boys and girls. 

On Saturday Aug. 1, Greenbo’s amphitheater will provide the venue for one of the park’s most popular entertainment events of the season. Ashland’s own Genuine Junk Band will stage a free concert sure to delight music lovers old and young. Nearly 10 years ago the band performed their first show together blending roots rock, jazz, blues and jams with lyrics and ideas reflecting their own personal experiences.

The group has chosen Greenbo to hold a free All Ages 10th Anniversary Concert in celebration of their accomplishments and as a special thank you to all their family, friends, and fans for their support. The concert starts at 8 p.m. at the Greenbo Amphitheatre. Bring your lawn chairs and blankets.

Greenbo Lake State Resort Park is on KY 1, 18 miles north of I-64 from the Grayson exit or 8 miles south of U.S. 23 (The Country Music Highway) on KY 1.  Greenbo Lake features the Jesse Stuart Lodge with 36 rooms, Gift Shop, and Anglers’ Cove Restaurant.  Park has a 225 acre lake for boating and fishing, tennis courts, 25miles of multi use trails for hiking, biking, and horseback riding.  The park’s newly renovated campground is open April 1 thru October 31. Greenbo Amphitheatre features musical concerts and plays during the summer and fall.
