PERRYVILLE, Ky. – One of the featured programs during the Battle of Perryville reenactment will be the American Spiritual Ensemble, a group that has traveled the world singing spirituals, jazz and Broadway selections.

During their appearance on Oct. 7 at the Perryville Battlefield State Historic Site, the ensemble will pay tribute to the story of African Americans during the Civil War with stirring spirituals from the 19th century.

Founded a decade ago, the American Spiritual Ensemble has thrilled audiences in theaters and opera houses around the world, including the Metropolitan Opera, the New York City Opera, the Houston Grand Opera, and abroad in Italy, Germany, Britain, Scotland, Spain and Japan.

The ensemble will sing on Saturday at 6 p.m. at the Union monument in an appearance sponsored by the First Southern National Bank. The ensemble will also be performing on Sunday, Oct. 8, at the Norton Center for the Arts at Centre College in Danville at 3 p.m. For more information about the Norton Center appearance, call 859-236-4692 or Toll Free 1-877-HIT SHOW (448-7469).
