Pennyrile Forest Holding Rook Tournament, Landscape Oil Painting Weekend in January
DAWSON SPRINGS, Ky. – Guests at Pennyrile Forest State Resort Park will be playing cards and painting during January.
The park’s Winter Rook Tournament is scheduled for Jan. 8-9. The round-robin rook tournament begins at 7 p.m. Friday night and runs through Saturday evening. House rules will apply. Registration fee is $25 per team and a new deck of rook cards. Early bird registration fee is $20 per team and a new deck of rook cards due on or before Jan. 2, 2010.
Special lodging discount of two night's for the price of one for all registered participants. Prizes will be given to the top three finishing teams.
For those aspiring artists, the park will be holding its Landscape Oil Painting Weekend Jan. 29-31. If you've always wanted to learn how to paint, this is the weekend event for you!
Learn the wet-on-wet method of oil painting by creating your very own 16x20 landscape painting. The fees are as follows: $65 for one painting (Saturday or Sunday) class or $120 for two painting classes (Saturday & Sunday) and the Friday night program. There is a maximum of 15 participants per class, so sign-up early. The classes will be taught by Bonita Mallory of Eddyville.

Pennyrile Forest State Resort Park has a lodge, cottages, restaurant and hiking trails. The resort is 20 miles northwest of Hopkinsville on KY 109 N. From the Western Kentucky Parkway, exit at Dawson Springs and take KY 109 south.
