State Parks Get New Equipment
FRANKFORT, Ky. – More than $1 million in new tractors, mowers and other equipment will be going to 44 state parks to replace aging equipment.
The new equipment will help the parks do a better job with maintenance, landscaping, mowing and other duties, according to Parks Commissioner J.T. Miller. “Some of our mowers and tractors were decades old and in need of replacement,” Miller said. “One of our tractors dates back to the 1950s and one of our mowers is more than 30 years old.”
Some of the major pieces of equipment include tractors with backhoes that are going to nine parks. Those parks are: Blue Licks Battlefield (Robertson County); General Burnside (Pulaski County); General Butler (Carroll County); Greenbo Lake (Greenup County); Lake Barkley (Trigg County); Lake Malone (Muhlenburg and Logan counties); Levi Jackson (Laurel County); My Old Kentucky Home (Nelson County); Pennyrile Forest (Christian and Hopkins counties).
The new equipment is expected to be delivered by the end of the year. Another $1.5 million in equipment will be purchased before summer next year. The funding comes from a $60 million bond issue approved by the 2006 General Assembly.
