Audubon State Park Offers Bird Walk
FRANKFORT, Ky. -- Bird lovers young and old can celebrate the return of spring and birds at John James Audubon State Park in Henderson on Saturday, May 6.
The park -- named after the famed naturalist and artist -- will sponsor bird free walks and other activities as part of Bird Migration Day. The day’s activities include:
7-9:30 a.m. (Central Time): Guided Bird Walk for early risers. Join the early birds (and people) for some quality birding in some of the best warbler habitat around. This walk is for all birding skill levels so bring your binoculars, field guide, and a good pair of walking shoes. Ages: Adults and supervised children. Walk departs from the Audubon Museum Back Porch.
8:30—10 a.m.: Guided Bird Walk for later risers. Join us for a walk in the woods in search of different types of birds. This walk is for birders of all birding skill levels. Ages: Adults and supervised children. Walk departs from the Audubon Museum Back Porch.
10:30 a.m. —Noon: Flying WILD Nature games. Fun activities to celebrate the splendor of bird life. Ages: All ages. Program location: Meet at the Park Main Office. Games will be played on a nearby grassy hill.
Noon—1 p.m.: A Peek into Avian Research. Museum Curator Alan Gehret introduces visitors to the tips and tricks of the most widely used methodology for studying bird populations—bird banding. This interactive program will take a look at the equipment and methods for studying birds around the world. Ages: Adults and supervised children. Program Location: Audubon Museum Learning Center.
