FRANKFORT, Ky. (Jan. 28, 2004) -- Commerce Secretary W. James Host today announced the appointment of former University of Kentucky basketball player J.P. Blevins as director of recreation in the Department of Parks.
“J.P. will bring talent and energy to this important position,” Host said. “The park system’s recreational facilities and planned special events are key selling points for our park system. I’m confident that his leadership will result in improvements that will support our goal of creating more revenue in our parks. I will ask him to look at new revenue generators for parks, like basketball and cheerleading camps.”
Blevins was co-captain of the 2001-2002 Wildcat basketball team. He earned several academic honors while attending UK, including being named the Otis Singletary Outstanding Male Senior for 2002, in recognition of his athletic and academic accomplishments. He was also active in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
Blevins, 24, graduated magna cum laude in 2002 with a Bachelor of Science degree in communications and has since served as a pharmaceutical sales representative.
