Transportation Cabinet
Thought-Provoking Exhibit is Parked at Transportation Cabinet’s Front Door
The twisted wreckage of this Jeep Cherokee would ordinarily be found in a junkyard. Instead, you will see it prominently displayed at 200 Mero St. Frankfort, Kentucky. That’s the home address for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, where this mangled vehicle is being showcased as a vivid reminder of how a life can be saved simply by wearing a safety belt.
This compelling exhibit is part of the Transportation Cabinet’s Saved by the Belt program (a campaign that seeks to identify Kentuckians whose lives have been saved, or who have been spared more serious injuries, because they were buckled up at the time of a collision.) This display has a special meaning to the Transportation Cabinet because one of their own employees, Scott Price of Casey County, survived that horrible four-vehicle crash with only minor cuts and bruises.
“I was able to go home to my wife and kids that day because I was wearing my seat belt,” said Price. “I can say without a doubt that I was saved by the belt.”
“Scott’s experience is a living testament to the life-saving value of safety belts,” said Jim Adams, Transportation Cabinet Deputy Secretary. “Saved by the Belt further illustrates this administration’s determination to find every possible way to save lives on our highways.”
During Kentucky’s Lifesavers Conference in April, Governor Ernie Fletcher announced that the Governor’s Executive Committee on Highway Safety would be one voice behind all of Kentucky’s highway safety initiatives. Deputy Secretary Jim Adams chairs that committee.
“The vision of this committee is to achieve the most improved and sustainable reduction in highway fatalities and injuries in the nation,” Adams said. The exhibit outside our central office reminds all of us about the huge difference safety belt usage can make. Scott Price was Saved by the Belt…YOU could be Saved by the Belt, too.”
