Thursday, October 12, 2006 FRANKFORT, Ky. –(October 12, 2006) – To further Governor Ernie Fletcher's goal of a safe and reliable transportation system in Kentucky, the Transportation Cabinet has approved a $3.6 million highway rehabilitation project in Magoffin County. The road work will encompass nearly six miles of US 460, commonly referred to as Salyersville-Paintsville Road. The construction zone will start at the intersection of US 460 and KY 114, just east of Salyersville, and continue to the Magoffin-Johnson County line.

Transportation Secretary Bill Nighbert added a bronze plate with the 2005 number “985” to the monument, the highest since 1973. Numbers of fatalities for the previous nine years are also listed on the plaque.

Monday, December 19, 2005 FRANKFORT, KY ( December 16, 2005) – Transportation Cabinet officials announced today that the U.S. Department of Homeland Security has awarded $3,000,000 to the Commonwealth for a pilot project related to implementation of the REAL ID Act. REAL ID is a federally mandated program that will eventually replace the Kentucky driver’s license. This new ID will also provide access to services in all federally-controlled places, including airports.

Monday, December 12, 2005 FRANKFORT, KY (December 12, 2005) - Preliminary figures are now available for the cost of dealing with the first winter weather event of the season. Transportation Cabinet road crews were out as early as last Tuesday pre-treating roadways in anticipation of the winter weather. The mixture of snow, sleet and freezing rain advanced across the commonwealth last Thursday.

Monday, December 12, 2005 LOUISVILLE, KY (December 12, 2005) - Automobile liability insurance is mandatory in Kentucky, and has been for at least two decades. Still, despite that requirement, many motorists have opted to drive without liability insurance on their personal vehicles. House Bill 29 is designed to put the brakes on uninsured drivers by enabling officials to compare vehicle registration information with vehicle insurance databases to identify people, all across the Commonwealth, who drive uninsured vehicles.

The Department of Administrative Services is responsible for managing the Policy Support Branch and the Divisions of Fleet Management, Property and Supply Services, Purchases, Toll Facilities, and Technology.
