A number of highway construction, maintenance and upgrade projects across Kentucky are now in the fast lane toward completion.  The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet has given the green light to more than $30 million worth of work.  The contracts were awarded following a bid opening in late April.

“These projects reaffirm Governor Fletcher’s commitment to improving our roads, which pave the way to new opportunities for our residents,” said acting Transportation Secretary Bill Nighbert.  “This series of contracts deals with everything from resurfacing to safety and drainage enhancements, repair work from winter and spring weather erosion, to putting up new guardrails so we will all have a safer drive to work, school or just around town.”

         For example:

    • Approximately 8 miles of US 127 in Anderson County will be resurfaced for the amount $2,561,306.04
    • Widen US 25 in Rockcastle County from I-75 to the County Music Hall of Fame for the amount of $4,842,696.62
    • Approximately 3 miles of I-64 in Bath County will see improvements such as pavement rehab and slide correction for the amount of $7,690,707.25
    • Reconstruct more than a mile of KY 61 in Adair County for the amount of $6,499,118.63

Work schedules for the various projects are contained within the individual contract for each project.  “This is an extremely busy time of the year for our cabinet,” concluded Secretary Nighbert. “We’re moving full speed ahead with these projects that promote the cabinet’s mission of creating a safe and reliable transportation system throughout the commonwealth.”

NOTE:  A complete listing of projects awarded at the April 29, 2005 letting is available at the Transportation Cabinet central office in Frankfort.  Individual press releases detailing specific projects are being released by Cabinet Public Information Officers at the district level.
