Updated financial plan for Louisville-Southern Indiana Bridges Project approved by two oversight authorities
Updated plan, mandated by General Assembly, goes to Federal Highway Administration
FRANKFORT, Ky. (Dec. 16, 2010) – An updated financial plan for the Louisville-Southern Indiana Ohio River Bridges Project was approved today by two oversight authorities, clearing the way for submission of the plan to the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA).
“I appreciate the hard work and sense of purpose that went into producing an updated financial plan,” said Gov. Steve Beshear. “It’s another important step toward our shared goal of figuring out how to deliver this vital project as quickly, efficiently and economically as possible.”
The plan contains cost estimates and schedules for delivery of all sections of the project – an East End bridge with approaches on both sides of the river, a downtown bridge with an Indiana approach and a reconstruction of the Kennedy Interchange, where Interstates 64, 65 and 71 converge in downtown Louisville.
The bi-state Louisville and Southern Indiana Bridges Authority, created to oversee the project’s construction and financing, approved the updated plan at a meeting today in Louisville. The statewide Kentucky Public Transportation Infrastructure Authority approved the updated plan at a subsequent meeting in Frankfort.
The 2010 Kentucky General Assembly mandated an update of the project’s initial financial plan for submission to FHWA by Dec. 31. The plan will be further refined by the bi-state authority as work on the project continues.
The plan can be viewed and downloaded from the bi-state authority’s website, www.bridgesauthority.com.
