Governor Fletcher & Transportation Cabinet Award $52,432.77 Highway Contract in Boyle County

LEXINGTON, KY – (July 11, 2005) – The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet is working to upgrade the highway network in Boyle County.  One contract, totaling $52,432.77, has been approved by the cabinet in the recent June letting.

“This project reflects my administration’s commitment to ensuring that drivers in Boyle County are able to get to their work, schools or other destinations with confidence that our state’s roads are in the best condition possible,” said Governor Ernie Fletcher.

The $52,432.77 project provides for the resurfacing of KY 33 (Burgin Road) from US 127/150 extending north to Old Shakertown Road.  The project has been awarded to the Allen Company, Inc., of Winchester, Kentucky.

The contract awarded to Boyle County is contained in one of the largest lettings ever by the Transportation Cabinet.  Boyle County is one of 12 counties in District Seven. Approximately $2.5 million has been awarded for projects in District Seven. Statewide, more than $167 million worth of projects have been authorized.

“These new projects will help to repair and upgrade our aging highway infrastructure and provide safer roads that will further economic development and enhance safe travel for Kentuckians,” said acting Secretary Bill Nighbert.

Locally, work is expected to begin in the near future and the anticipated completion date is October 30, 2005. Construction activities are scheduled on a tentative basis and are subject to change depending on weather conditions.
