Boone and Kenton Counties Begins
$9.8 Million Construction Project will improve business corridor
COVINGTON, KY – The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet wants to inform the public that the next section of the Industrial Road (KY 1829) widening project has begun in Boone and Kenton Counties. The 1.3 mile section will go from Dixie Highway (US 25) in Boone County to Turkeyfoot Road (KY 1303) in Kenton County.
“This needed road widening project will help relieve congestion in the Industrial Park area for traffic traveling between Turkeyfoot Road and Dixie Highway,” said Rob Hans, Chief District Engineer for District 6. “This is the second and final phase for improvements of the entire length of Industrial Road.”
Lawrence Construction and Leasing, Inc. of Walton, Kentucky was awarded the low bid contract for $9.8 million.
This section of roadway will have three-lane and five-lane sections with a continuous center turning lane and curb, gutter and sidewalks. A five foot sidewalk will be installed on the south side of the road and an eight foot multi-use path will be provided on the north side. Also, improvements to Holton and Foundation Drive will be constructed.
The contractors have started clearing work. This phase has extensive utility relocation work as well. Two lanes of traffic will be maintained throughout the construction project.
The project anticipated completion date is August 2012.
