Bridge Improvement Project Ready to Begin
Crews to start working on the US 127 over Big Sugar Creek
COVINGTON, Ky. (June 8, 2009) – The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet announces a bridge maintenance project is about to begin on the US 127 bridge over Big Sugar Creek in Gallatin County. The project will encompass several maintenance improvements. The bridge deck will be restored and waterproofed and the bridge joints will be repaired.
Rob Hans, Executive Director for KYTC District 6 said, “These repairs and improvements will provide a wider roadway and smoother ride for the many vehicles traveling across this bridge on a daily basis. This is just one example of the Cabinet’s commitment to improving safety and mobility on our highways and bridges.”
Salsman Brothers Inc., of Bardstown, Kentucky was awarded the low bid contract for $397,000. This project is the first in KYTC District 6 receiving all of its money from the American recovery Revitalization Act (ARRP-federal stimulus).
The contractor plans to begin work on June 15, 2009. Traffic on US 127 will be maintained by a temporary traffic signal. This temporary traffic signal on the bridge will allow for one lane of travel over the bridge to be maintained. Motorists should expect minor delays.
The project is anticipated to be complete by the middle of August 2009.
