Governor Fletcher & Transportation Cabinet Awards a $321,288 Highway Contract in

Boone and Gallatin Counties

 

 

Covington, Kentucky – (September 26, 2005) – The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet is working to upgrade the highway network in Boone and Gallatin Counties.  A contract, totaling $321,288.75, has been approved by the cabinet.

 

“We want Kentuckians and visitors alike to know that WHENEVER you drive and WHEREVER you drive in this Commonwealth, you can count on safe, dependable roads,” said Acting Transportation Secretary Bill Nighbert. “As we evaluate projects, safety, reliability and economic development are at the top of the list.”  

 

This project involves asphalt resurfacing on various sections of I-71 in Boone and Gallatin Counties.  Barrett Paving Materials Inc., Cincinnati, Ohio was awarded the low bid contract in the amount of $321,288.75. 

 

Boone and Gallatin County are two of eleven counties in District 6. Approximately $20.5 million has been awarded for projects in District 6 during the latest round of contract approvals. Statewide, more than $91 million worth of projects have recently been authorized which brings the total amount of contracts awarded this year to more than $521 million. 

 

 

“Here in Kentucky we have embraced a philosophy that relies on a solid transportation system as the underpinning for flourishing commerce,” said Governor Ernie Fletcher. “Highway projects such as these are a shining example of our commitment to those principles.”

 

Locally, work is expected to begin in the near future. Construction activities are scheduled on a tentative basis and are subject to change depending on weather conditions.
