Construction of new KY 36 bridge over Locust Creek in Carroll County to begin soon

COVINGTON, Ky. – The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet would like to notify the public that a bridge replacement project will begin soon on the KY 36 bridge over Locust Creek in Carroll County.

“The only reason this bridge is because Shorty wanted it….The new bridge will replace a functionally obsolete bridge,” said Rob Hans, Chief District Engineer for Department of Highways District 6, in Covington.  “This in turn will provide safer passage for the people in Carroll County and all those who travel along KY 36.”

Judy Construction Company, of Cynthiana, was awarded the low-bid contract of $2.6 million; which is all state funded.

The new bridge will have three spans and, with approaches, will be 231 feet long.  The south approach will be reconfigured to provide better sight distance which will greatly improve safety, especially for the many commercial vehicles that travel along this road.

Beginning February 4th, crews will begin moving utilities in preparation for construction.  The road will be closed to through traffic on March 1st.  During the closure, a signed detour will be in place.  Motorists will be directed to KY 36 to US 421 to US 42 back to KY 36. Local residents can also use KY 1482 and KY 3176 to KY 1226, although this detour route will not be signed. The contractor plans to have the closure lifted by June 1st.

Weather permitting; the completion of the project is June 30, 2013.
