LOUISVILLE, KY (July 27, 2005)- Governor Ernie Fletcher has authorized $500,000 in funding for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet to proceed with the design phase for improvements on Mount Washington Road in Jefferson County.  This funding will be used to identify engineering improvements for nearly three miles of this corridor between Preston Highway (KY 61) and Cedar Creek Road (KY 864).

“By authorizing this money, we are fulfilling my administration’s primary mission to improve economic development and quality of life for the citizens of Kentucky,” said Governor Fletcher.

This area of Mount Washington Road has seen rapid growth over the last few years with the construction of the commercial development at Standiford Plaza and the Cooper Farms subdivision.  Another subdivision, the Woods of Pen Run North, is also currently being developed.

“More developments are planned along this section of roadway, thus the need for making these improvements is essential,” stated Acting Secretary Bill Nighbert. “By moving forward with these improvements, we are providing a safe, reliable transportation system for the residents and motorists in this area.”

The design process will begin this fall to identify near-term and long-term improvements for the corridor.  The Transportation Cabinet will perform this work in coordination with the funding secured by Congresswoman Ann Northup for Louisville Metro Public Works to make improvements on Mount Washington Road, Cedar Creek Road, and Beulah Church Road.
