Department of Highways, District 5
District Five Road Condition Update 11:30am EST
Louisville, KY (December 9, 2005)- Kentucky Department of Highways District 5 road crews braved bitterly cold weather, gusty winds and icy conditions overnight as they worked to clear a path through snow and ice. Crews have applied salt and where necessary plowed all routes in the eight-county district covering just over 2,000 two-lane miles of roadway. Approximately 4,000 tons of salt combined with 13,500 gallons of liquid calcium chloride have been used to melt the ice and snow.
District 5 includes the counties of Bullitt, Franklin, Henry, Jefferson, Oldham, Shelby, Spencer and Trimble. Roadway conditions vary across the district with a few reports of roads partly covered with snow. All priority A and B routes are dry and clear. The patience of the public is much appreciated as we continue to clear the C routes which are the more rural roadways.
The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet urges motorists to buckle up and drive cautiously. Please remember to safely share the road with snow removal and emergency vehicles. The most current statewide traffic and travel information is available by dialing 511 or by logging onto the web-site at http://511.ky.gov. When traveling outside the state, call 1-866-737-3767 for Kentucky roadway conditions.
