Free child seat inspection coming to London Program aims to keep Kentucky’s children safe
FRANKFORT, Ky. (March 24, 2008) – The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, Office of Highway Safety, will conduct a free child safety seat inspection in London on Friday, April 4. Nationally certified child passenger safety technicians educate participants on correct installation and usage and check for recalls or damage to the seat. Attendees should allow approximately 20 minutes per seat.

WHY: National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) statistics show over 90 percent of child safety seats in the United States are installed incorrectly. When used correctly, child safety seats are 71 percent effective in reducing infant fatalities, 67 percent effective in reducing the need for hospitalization and 54 percent effective in reducing fatalities for children ages 1 to 4.
