| JACKSON, KY – (March 15, 2005) --Governor Ernie Fletcher has approved the expenditure of approximately $500,000 by the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet for construction of an access road to the new Wolfe County Elementary School in Campton, along with safety improvements to existing roads in the area.
"This project will make it safer for kids walking and parents driving their children to the new school by making needed improvements to roads around the area," Governor Fletcher said. "Whether it’s creating access to schools and industry, or initiating safety improvements to save lives, projects on our rural roads are vital to Kentucky’s transportation network and the residents of our Commonwealth. Our intent is to provide a safe and reliable transportation system for all Kentucky motorists."
The project calls for construction of a connector road from KY 15 to KY 2491 at the entrance to the new school, with a structure spanning Swift Camp Creek. Turn lanes will also be built on KY 15 to accommodate school traffic and improve safety for other motorists.
Engineering and design work is now underway on this new access road and a contract should be awarded later this year. The work is anticipated to be complete by the time the new school is ready for occupancy.
