| JACKSON, KY – (March 15, 2005) -- Governor Ernie Fletcher has approved the expenditure of approximately $342,000 by the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet for construction of a center turn lane on KY 11 north in Beattyville.
"We are pleased to make this improvement to improve the safety for drivers in Beattyville and Lee County," Governor Fletcher said. "Whether it’s creating access to schools and industry, or initiating safety improvements to save lives, projects on our rural roads are vital to Kentucky’s transportation network and the residents of our Commonwealth. Our vision is to provide a safe and reliable transportation system for all Kentucky motorists."
The turning lane will improve access from KY 11 to the Village Center, a growing office complex north of downtown, and to Big Hill Avenue, where several offices and businesses are located. This safety improvement will help eliminate the possibility of accidents on this busy stretch of highway.
The work will be done by state forces and should be completed later this year.
