Kentucky Arts Council Offers Arts Project Grants for Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Celebrations
FRANKFORT, Ky. – In preparation for the Kentucky Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial celebrations, the Kentucky Arts Council is encouraging arts and cultural organizations, local government agencies and colleges and universities to develop Lincoln-related projects with broad community appeal.
The Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Project grants are matching grants of up to $7,500 to fund projects taking place between January 1, 2008 and June 30, 2009. An “Intent to Apply” form is required by September 15, 2007. The completed Application is due October 15, 2007. “People from all over the country will focus their attention on Kentucky, as we begin the celebration of Lincoln’s birth, “ says Arts Council Executive Director, Lori Meadows. “We are pleased to be able to offer these grants, funded through the Kentucky Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Commission, to strengthen the legacy of Lincoln through the arts.”
Abraham Lincoln was born in Hodgenville, Kentucky on February 12, 1809, and Kentucky is leading the national bicentennial celebration.
The Kentucky Arts Council works in an advisory capacity with the Kentucky Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Commission. The Commission’s mission is to commemorate, in conjunction with the National Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Commission, the 200th birthday of Abraham Lincoln, emphasizing Kentucky’s contribution to his thoughts and ideals, and to serve as a coordinator of statewide efforts to convey Lincoln’s Kentucky story and his legacy of freedom, democracy and equal opportunity for all. Kentucky Arts Council funding is provided by the Kentucky State Legislature and the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency, which believes that a great nation deserves great art.
