Kentucky Arts Council Offers Fellowship Awards to Visual and Media Artists
The Kentucky Arts Council is currently accepting applications from Kentucky artists for the Al Smith Individual Artist Fellowship Program.
The purpose of the Individual Artist Fellowship Program is to recognize creative excellence in practicing, professional Kentucky artists and support the advancement and continuation of their arts careers. Fellowship recipients will be awarded $7500 and receive additional promotional opportunities. Artists not receiving Fellowships may be selected to receive a $1000 Professional Assistance Award.
This year, applications will be accepted from visual artists (two- and three-dimensional) and media artists (film, video and audio). Categories include craft, drawing, experimental and installation work, mixed media, new genre, painting, photography, printmaking, sculpture, film, video and audio work.
Applications are accepted annually, on a rotating basis by discipline. Musical composers, choreographers, writers and interdisciplinary artists will be eligible to apply to the Fellowship Program in 2006.
A panel of out-of-state artists and arts professionals will judge applicants for this highly competitive program. Awards are based on artistic excellence, professional achievement and the potential of the fellowship to enhance the artist’s development.
Applicants must be professional artists creating their own work, at least 18 years of age and residents of Kentucky. Interested artists must submit an intent to apply form to the Kentucky Arts Council by August 15, 2005 (postmark deadline), followed by an application which is due September 15, 2005 (postmark deadline).
