Arts Council presents arts education conference
|
FRANKFORT, Ky. — In conjunction with National Arts and Humanities Month, the Kentucky Arts Council will conduct a one-day conference on Saturday, Oct. 22, 2011, for teachers, educators, parents, principals, teaching artists and artists interested in working in the classroom. The conference will be at the West Kentucky Educational Cooperative Conference Center, 435 Outlet Ave., Eddyville, Ky.
The morning sessions, from 9 a.m. – noon CDT, are geared toward teachers with workshops focused on artist residencies and grant writing tips for the arts council’s Teacher Initiated Program. Professional development certificates will be provided to teachers attending.
The afternoon sessions, from 1 – 4 p.m. CDT, are geared toward teaching artists and artists who are interested in conducting artist residencies in Kentucky schools. Artists will learn about the expectations of the Kentucky Department of Education for the arts and humanities curriculum and how to apply to the arts council’s Teaching Artists Directory.
Conference fees are $20 for a full day or $15 for a half day. Discounts are available for additional attendees from the same school or district. For more information about the conference and discounts, contact Rachel Allen at rachel.allen@ky.gov or 502-564-3757, ext. 486.

The Kentucky Arts Council will also present a Visual Arts Conference in Lexington on Oct. 22 and a Performing and Literary Arts Conference in Somerset on Oct. 25.
National Arts and Humanities Month, coordinated by Americans for the Arts, encourages Americans to explore new facets of the arts and humanities in their lives and begin a lifelong habit of active participation in the arts and humanities.
The Kentucky Arts Council, the state arts agency, creates opportunities for Kentuckians to value, participate in and benefit from the arts. Kentucky Arts Council funding is provided by the Kentucky General Assembly and the National Endowment for the Arts.
