| Artists from Kentucky, Ohio, Tennessee, Virginia, Georgia and Indiana have been selected by a panel of arts and education professionals to be included in the Kentucky Arts Council’s Arts Education Roster of Artists for the 2005-06 school year. The 42 roster artists will be available to Kentucky schools through the Kentucky Arts Council’s various residency programs, including the Teacher Initiated, Alternative Connections (youth-at-risk) and ArtStart! (early childhood) grant programs, as well as the School-Community-Arts-Parents-Partnership Program. During the course of a residency, artists demonstrate their art forms and share their ideas, creativity and talents with students and teachers. Many schools also choose to contract with these artists independent of Arts Council grants because of the high caliber of services they provide to engage students in learning through the arts.
The selection of artists is an adjudicated process and the criteria includes evidence of high-quality artistic work in visual or performing arts (including theatre, dance and music) literary arts, folk and traditional arts, and media arts or any combination of art forms. Prospective artists must also demonstrate that they have the skills and competencies needed to work with teachers and students in designing and implementing arts programs.
New artists added to the roster this year are Angela Bartley, Louisville, KY; Cynthia Changaris, Louisville, KY; Angelyn DeBord, Gate City, VA; James Gans, Bloomington, IN; Kathryne Gardette, Cincinnati, OH; Lonnie Hendrix, Hyden, KY; Heidi Howe, Louisville, KY; Collis Caroline Marshall, Louisville, KY; Gregory Maupin, Louisville, KY; Albert Nelson, Louisville, KY; Christian Schmit, Fort Thomas, KY; Roberta Schultz, Wilder, KY; Dianne Simpson, Heidrick, KY.
