The Kentucky Arts Council is now accepting Intent to Apply forms for the Teacher Initiated Program which assists schools in bringing professional artists into the classroom for one to four week residencies in the fall of 2004. During these planned residencies, artists demonstrate their art forms and provide students and teachers repeated opportunities to learn about and experience the making of art.

The Kentucky Arts Council maintains an adjudicated roster of artists working in dance, folk arts, literary arts, media, music, storytelling, theatre and visual arts that teachers may choose to work with.  Artist selection for the roster is based on artistic excellence and having the requisite skills and competencies to work with teachers and students in designing and implementing relevant arts programs.  Artists who are not on the approved roster may be eligible to apply with a teacher for one- or two-week Teacher Incentive Program residency.

The Intent to Apply form is required and due January 2, 2004.  Application is due February 1, 2004.  For Teacher Initiated Program grant guidelines and instructions, go to http://artscouncil.ky.gov/guide/prog6/tip_guid.htm.  For more information about this program, please contact John S. Benjamin, Arts Education Program Director, toll free at 1- 888-833-2787, ext. 4813 or by e-mail to john.benjamin@ky.gov .

The Kentucky Arts Council is a state agency in the Education, Arts and Humanities Cabinet, established by the Kentucky General Assembly in 1965 by executive order to develop and promote support for the arts in Kentucky.  The Arts Council provides grants, awards and technical assistance to Kentucky artists, not-for-profit organizations, local governments and schools committed to providing arts and cultural programs and services to the public, contingent upon budgetary action of the Kentucky General Assembly and Partnership Agreement Grant funds from the National Endowment for the Arts.
