Arts Council Releases "Abraham Lincoln of Kentucky"

FRANKFORT, Ky. In honor of the bicentennial of the birth of Abraham Lincoln in Kentucky, the Kentucky Arts Council has published a collection of original poetry and prose by four of Kentucky's poets laureate. The reflections on Lincoln in "Abraham Lincoln of Kentucky" by Richard Taylor, Joe Survant, Sena Jeter Naslund, and Jane Gentry are handsomely produced in hand-crafted, soft-cover and hard-cover letterpress editions by Larkspur Press.  The writings, edited by Frederick Smock, are complemented by original wood engravings by Kentucky artist, John Lackey, and a foreword by State Historian of Kentucky, Dr. James Klotter.

 

"'Abraham Lincoln of Kentucky' will be a lasting tribute to one our nation's greatest presidents, as we celebrate his legacy and the 200th anniversary of his birth in Kentucky," says Lori Meadows, executive director of the Kentucky Arts Council. 

 

The book will debut at the Kentucky Book Fair on November 15, 2008 at the Frankfort Convention Center, 405 Mero Street, Frankfort, Ky. Authors will be on site to sign books throughout the day.  For more information about the Kentucky Book Fair, go to: www.kybookfair.com.

 

In conjunction with the Kentucky Book Fair, the Thomas D. Clark Center for Kentucky History is hosting A Day with Lincoln.  At 9:15 a.m., Jane Gentry, Joe Survant, Richard Taylor and Frederick Smock will present a symposium on "Abraham Lincoln of Kentucky."

 

A very limited number of copies of "Abraham Lincoln of Kentucky" are available for sale.  The soft-cover edition is $26.95 and the hard-cover edition is $45.95.  They can be purchased at the Kentucky Book Fair or online at www.artscouncil.ky.gov/shop/merchandise.htm. Proceeds from the sale of the book will support future literary arts projects in Kentucky.

 

Richard Taylor of Frankfort was Kentucky Poet Laureate in 1999 and 2000; Joe Survant, Bowling Green, Kentucky Poet Laureate, 2003 and 2004; Sena Jeter Naslund, Louisville, Kentucky Poet Laureate, 2005 and 2006; and Jane Gentry, Versailles, currently serves as Kentucky Poet Laureate for the 2007-2008 term.
