The Kentucky Higher Education Assistance Authority (KHEAA) announced today that Kentucky Educational Excellence Scholarships (KEES) earned by students who were attending postsecondary schools affected by Hurricane Katrina may still use their awards if they wish to enroll in a Kentucky postsecondary institution.

“This is just one small way we can help Kentucky students who were suddenly forced to leave schools in disaster-stricken areas,” said Dr. Joe L. McCormick, KHEAA executive director. “We extend our deepest sympathy to all whose lives were changed by this terrible tragedy.”

Institutions receiving the students can request and disburse the appropriate KEES amount to students who had earned awards for academic terms that begin prior to January 1, 2006.  Students will need to certify they were enrolled in a program of study at an institution that has been impacted by Hurricane Katrina.
