Ron Owens Demonstrates Willow Baskets at Kentucky Artisan Center
On Friday, July 4, Ron Owens of Mt. Vernon will demonstrate how he creates baskets from willow branches from 10:30 – 3:30 at the Kentucky Artisan Center at Berea.
Ron Owens is a native of Rockcastle County, KY, and is a self-taught artist who has worked in willow furniture for over 17 years. Ron assembles his baskets and furniture in a restored 50 year old barn and collects and harvests willow trees from local areas. He cuts the willow year round in order for it to be fresh. This fresh or limber willow is then cut, bent and assembled into a multitude of functional pieces. Ron’s willow baskets have durable construction that will last a lifetime indoors.
Ron’s willow baskets and furniture is regularly found at the Kentucky Artisan Center at Berea. Ron’s demonstration Friday will focus on baskets which can be used to hold potted plants, magazines or many other items.
