Fiber Artist Lin Oglesby to Ply Yarns at Kentucky Artisan Center

On Saturday, April 7, fiber artist Lin Oglesby of Harrodsburg, will demonstrate how she plys yarns with a spinning wheel from 10:30 – 3:30 at the Kentucky Artisan Center at Berea.

Lin Oglesby has been working with fiber arts all her life. She learned to knit and crochet from her mother and grandmother and later learned to spin and weave by reading books and then experimenting. She has been a full time weaver since 1979, selling her work through craft fairs, shops and galleries. Her weaving business got off to a strong start when at her second craft fair the restaurant chain Chi Chi’s asked her to decorate 40 of their restaurants! Lin and her husband Steve, who helps with her business, moved to Kentucky in 1996.

Lin spins and plies the yarn she uses for her knitted and crocheted scarves and hats. She “plies” or twists together multiple strands of spun yarn prior to using it in her work for additional thickness and strength, and can also achieve special effects by combining different colors and weights of yarn. Lin is a juried member of the Kentucky Guild of Artists and Craftsmen, the Kentucky Craft Marketing Program, and the Southern Highland Craft Guild for whom she regularly demonstrates.

Lin’s yarns, and knitting scarf and hat kits are regularly available at the Kentucky Artisan Center, located just off Interstate 75 at exit 77 (Berea). The Center’s exhibits, shopping, and travel information areas are all open daily from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and the café from 8 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Admission is free.
