Tuesday, May 22, 2012 On Saturday, May 26, Christa Smith, of Elizabethtown, will demonstrate traditional Bavarian painted wooden bridal boxes from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Kentucky Artisan Center at Berea.
- Kentucky Artisan Featured in Early American Life Magazine
Tuesday, May 22, 2012 Christa Smith, of Elizabethtown, whose work is regularly featured at the Kentucky Artisan Center at Berea, has been featured with her “bride boxes” in an article in the June issue of Early American Life magazine. The magazine is a source for information on early American style, decorating, and traditions, and it covers both antiques and reproductions made by artisans working in period styles with traditional tools.
Smith will be demonstrating her painted bridal boxes at the Kentucky Artisan Center at Berea on Saturday, May 26, from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Tuesday, May 15, 2012 At 2:15 p.m. on Friday, May 11, the Kentucky Artisan Center at Berea welcomed its 2 millionth visitor, Jennifer Price, from Louisville. Jennifer was traveling on Interstate -75 with her husband, James, and their three young children, Madeline, David and Julianna. Marcheta Sparrow, secretary of the Tourism, Arts and Heritage Cabinet, was on hand to present a Kentucky gift basket to Jennifer and her family.

Carving that day will be David Buzzard of Lexington, Bill Curry of Liberty and Jack Gann of Berea.

This exhibit includes one-of-a-kind oversized brooms, large whimsical steel sculptures and oversized furniture made from willow and ambrosia maple.

Wednesday, January 11, 2012 An exciting new exhibition titled “The Makings of a Master: Kentucky Folk Art Apprenticeships” is on display through Feb. 26 in the lobby of the Kentucky Artisan Center at Berea. This exhibition was developed by the Kentucky Folklife Program, an interagency program of the Kentucky Arts Council and the Kentucky Historical Society.

Tuesday, December 27, 2011 On Saturday, Dec. 31, members Lewis Newman and Charlotte Goeble of the co-op David Appalachian Crafts will create painted gourd and fabric ornaments from 10:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. at the Kentucky Artisan Center at Berea. David Appalachian Crafts is a 42-year-old craft co-op.

Monday, December 26, 2011 The Kentucky Artisan Center at Berea’s winter hours of operation will be in effect Jan. 2 - March 30, 2012. During this period the center will be open daily from 9 a.m. - 6 p.m. and the center’s cafe will be open 9:30 - 3:30. Artisan demonstrations will continue to be held from 10:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. every Saturday.
- Kentucky Artisan Center at Berea – Closed New Year’s Day
Saturday, December 24, 2011 The Kentucky Artisan Center at Berea will be closed Sunday, Jan. 1, for the New Year’s Day holiday.
The center will re-open on Monday, Jan. 2 with new winter hours of 9 a.m. - 6 p.m. with the cafe open from 9:30 a.m.- 3:30 p.m. Visitors can shop, enjoy a meal at the Artisan Cafe, and view the exhibition “An Artful Array: Bowls by Kentucky Artisans” through Feb. 25, 2012.
- Kentucky Artisan Center at Berea Invites Artisan Applications
Saturday, December 17, 2011 The Kentucky Artisan Center at Berea invites Kentucky artisans to apply to have their work selected to be offered for sale at the center.
Product application categories are crafts and other visual arts, music, film, foods, and literary works. Applicants must be residents of Kentucky and at least 18 years of age.
Application forms may be requested by calling the center at 859 - 985-5448. Forms may also be downloaded from the center’s website: www.kentuckyartisancenter.ky.gov
- Kentucky Artisan Center at Berea – Closed Early Christmas Eve – Closed Christmas Day
Thursday, December 15, 2011 The Kentucky Artisan Center at Berea will close at 5 p.m. on Christmas Eve, Saturday, Dec. 24. The center also will be closed all day on Christmas, Sunday, Dec. 25.
The center will reopen on Monday, Dec. 26, during regular hours from 8 a.m. - 8 p.m. with visitors able to shop and enjoy a meal at the Artisan Cafe throughout the week after Christmas.

Tuesday, December 06, 2011 On Saturday, Dec. 10 guitarist Gary Bertram and two of his guitar students will perform a variety of holiday music for visitors to enjoy from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. at the Kentucky Artisan Center at Berea.
Performing with Bertram will be 14-year old Katie Allen, of Corinth, and 17-year old Wyatt Cramer, of Cynthiana.

Tuesday, December 06, 2011 The Kentucky Artisan Center at Berea will offer travelers and visitors free guided gallery tours through the center’s current special exhibits on Saturday, Dec. 10, 2011, at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.
These free guided exhibit tours will be led by the center’s Information Specialist Gwen Heffner, who will talk about the exhibitions, the artists and individual works. Heffner will answer questions about the techniques and various processes used to create these bowls. Each 15-minute tour is given at 11 a.m. and again at 2 p.m.
