The Kentucky Commission on Human Rights will hold a civil rights Listening Tour from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. on March 10 in Morganfield, Ky. It will be at the Union County Public Library, 126 S. Morgan St. The public is invited to the free event.

The commission for the last year has been conducting the series of Listening Tours to give residents of local communities the opportunity to talk about human and civil rights in their regions. Commission staff will make presentations at the session to provide information about the Kentucky Civil Rights Act and protections against discrimination under the law. Participants may also learn how to file a discrimination complaint and how to get help when discrimination occurs.

The Kentucky Human Rights Commission is the state agency that enforces the Kentucky Civil Rights Act and federal civil rights laws, all of which prohibit discrimination.

The Kentucky Civil Rights Act protects people from discrimination based on race, color, religion, national origin, sex, age, disability, familial status and tobacco-smoking status. The protections apply with varying stipulations in the areas of employment, public accommodations, housing, and financial transactions.
