Kentucky Civil Rights Hall of Fame Announces Call for Nominations
The Kentucky Commission on Human Rights is proud to announce the Call for Nominations for the 2010 Kentucky Civil Rights Hall of Fame. Nominations are being accepted today through June 15.
Eighty-seven individuals have been inducted since the first Civil Rights Hall of Fame ceremony in 2000. The ceremony to honor new inductees will be held in October of this year in Louisville. Details will be announced later.
Any adult Kentucky resident may nominate someone for the Hall of Fame. Nominees are men and women who have made significant contributions to Kentucky’s progress in the areas of civil and human rights. The candidates may be either living or deceased, and their contributions may cover a wide range of issues and eras. They may represent the Civil War period, for example, or be activists of today. Their fights against discrimination may be in the areas of race, color, national origin, religion, sex, age, disability or other civil rights arenas. A panel of volunteer judges selects the inductees.
People can download the nomination form from the Kentucky Human Rights Commission website at www.kchr.ky.gov. Or anyone can call the commission to ask for a form at (800) 292-5566.
The Kentucky Commission on Human Rights is the state agency that enforces the Kentucky Civil Rights Act and federal laws that prohibit discrimination.
