LOUISVILLE – The Kentucky Commission on Human Rights will present a panel to discuss Kentucky's foreign-born communities. This Citizens Advocacy Hearing Panel will follow the commission's monthly meeting on Thursday, Oct. 16, from 1 to 3 p.m. The commission board will first meet at 9:30 a.m. Both events will be at the Americana Community Center at 4801 Southside Drive in Louisville. The commission invites the public to attend.

The panel will feature Marco Antonio Velasquez Navarrete of the Mexican Action Network on Free Trade, Edgardo Mansilla of the Americana Community Center, Glen Rodriguez of McKendree College, Cori Hash of the Maxwell Street Legal Clinic, and Robert McBride of the U.S. Department of Justice.

For the past nine months, the Kentucky Commission on Human Rights has held a series of Citizens Advocacy Hearing panels to examine the concerns of various members of protected classes under the Kentucky Civil Rights Act.

At the Board of Commissioners meeting, the commissioners expect to rule on a conciliation based on a discrimination complaint in Lebanon, Ky. The commissioners expect to rule on several cases with outcomes of no probable cause and to accept several case withdrawals for the right to file private suits.

The Kentucky Human Rights Commission is the state government agency that enforces the Kentucky Civil Rights Act and policies of federal civil rights laws that give people the right to live free from discrimination in the commonwealth.  These laws make illegal discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, national origin, disability, age, family status, and tobacco smoking status.
