LT. GOVERNOR AND KENTUCKY OFFICE OF DRUG CONTROL POLICY GIVING OUT MORE THAN $459,000 TO WESTERN KENTUCKY COUNTIES
Frankfort, KY: The Office of Drug Control Policy will present more than $459,000 in grant money to a drug court, a jail treatment center, six Champions coalitions and three drug task forces for several western Kentucky counties. A press conference will be held Monday, August 1 in Bowling Green at 9:00 a.m. CST. The presentation will take place in the Warren County Fiscal Court Room at the courthouse.
ODCP and the Lt. Governor will award Butler County with $234,700 for its Drug Court. Grayson County’s grant award is $69,651 for Jail Treatment, Warren County will receive $32,336 for its task force, Barren County will be awarded $22,719 and Logan County will be receiving $21,511 for the South Central Drug Task Force. Champions Coalitions in Warren, Butler, Hart, Metcalfe, Logan and Barren Counties are receiving grant money totaling over $78,000.
“It isn’t enough to just be tough on crime; we also need to be smart on crime”, says Lt. Governor Steve Pence “It’s not enough to lock people up and throw away the key.
“If we invest resources while they are incarcerated in helping them prepare to reenter society – providing job training and treatment for substance abuse, for example – we make our communities safer by reducing the chance that ex-prisoners will return to a life of crime. “With this strategy, I am confident that we can confront this scourge head-on and make a difference in our communities."
The ODCP is the coordinator and clearinghouse for substance abuse programs and issues in Kentucky. Our mission is to serve as a leader and catalyst for improving the health and safety of all Kentuckians by promoting strategic approaches and collaboration to reduce drug use and related crime.
