Sherre Smith-Jones named new Deputy Commissioner at DJJ
FRANKFORT, Ky. – Justice and Public Safety Secretary J. Michael Brown today announced the appointment of Sherre Smith-Jones to the newly created Deputy Commissioner of Community and Mental Health Services position at the Department of Juvenile Justice.
“The elevation of this position to a deputy commissioner spot emphasizes the department’s mission of offering treatment to juveniles, and its focus on community and home as the best place to provide that treatment,” Secretary Brown said. “Sherre’s extensive background in this area will be a tremendous asset as we work toward that goal.”
Smith-Jones is a 25-year veteran of juvenile and social services, most recently serving as Division Director of Community Services for DJJ. She holds a bachelor’s degree in social work from Eastern Kentucky University.
“Ms. Smith-Jones has given a lifetime to the care of our youth,” said DJJ Acting Commissioner Ron Haws. “She is an experienced member of our team, and we are excited that she will continue to serve the Commonwealth of Kentucky and the Department of Juvenile Justice in her new expanded role. I personally value her opinions and advice and look forward to working with her."
Her appointment was effective July 16th.
