FRANKFORT, Ky. (August 30, 2010)—Let the Kentucky Historical Society (KHS) introduce your child to Kentucky’s history, culture and traditions on fall break! KHS is now taking registrations for Camp ArtyFact: Fall Break 2010.

The camp is scheduled from Monday, Oct. 4 to Friday, Oct. 8 at the Thomas D. Clark Center for Kentucky History in downtown Frankfort.

A shortened version of its summer counterpart, Camp ArtyFact: Fall Break offers an opportunity for participants to explore the KHS history campus and collections through activities like sculpting, painting, drawing and theatre. With small classes, high-quality supplies and top-notch instructors, campers will learn how to talk about visual arts and artifacts, develop critical and analytical skills and gain confidence in their abilities.

About 140 campers attended the summer version of the camp.

Each course at the fall camp is three hours-long.  Parents may sign their campers up for the morning course, the afternoon course or both.

The schedule for the camp includes:
Ages 5-7
• Introduction to Sculpture—9 a.m. to noon.—Explore the foundations of sculpture using clay, plaster, papier-mache and other materials.
• Animals in Kentucky—1 to 4 p.m.—Discover the world of animals—both real and imagined—using a variety of media and supplies.
Ages 8-10
• Drawing and Painting—9 a.m. to noon—Create drawings and paintings from imagination and observation using acrylic and watercolor paint, as well as India ink.
• Introduction to Acting for Film/Video—1 to 4 p.m.—Learn to act naturally on camera! Campers will practice skills, and develop and rehearse a short original production, which will be recorded and posted to the KHS YouTube channel.

Fees for the camp are $50 for KHS or Kentucky Junior Historical Society (KJHS) members and $65 for all other patrons for the week, and include all supplies. Registration forms are available at www.history.ky.gov/camp, by emailing Mike Deetsch at Mike.Deetsch@ky.gov or by calling 502-564-1792. The registration deadline is Sept.27.
