Discover Your Roots at the July Family-History Workshop
FRANKFORT, Ky. (June 24, 2010)— The Kentucky Historical Society (KHS) and the Kentucky Genealogical Society (KGS) will host a free family-history workshop—“Overcoming Research Roadblocks” and “Siblings for Sarah” from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 10 at the Thomas D. Clark Center for Kentucky History in downtown Frankfort.
For the morning session, experienced genealogists will lead a panel discussion and offer recommendations to help you resolve difficult family-tracing problems and get beyond those genealogical dead ends. Panelists include Deborah Lord Campisano, Mary E. Clay, Betty Darnell and Roger Futrell.
In the afternoon, Campisano will discuss the difficult task of advancing an ancestral line when no records name the parents and the family was missed in the census. Identifying parents using only indirect evidence requires a unique strategy and involves reconstructing a family unit before parentage is revealed. Campisano will illustrate the process using records created by probable kin and collaterals.
Following the close of each Family-History Workshop, at 1:45 p.m. the Kentucky Technology in Genealogy Users Group offers a free program to help support family-history researchers’ use and understanding of technology as it applies to genealogy. This month’s program will highlight the use of Evernote and MS OneNote as information-management tools, and will compare the features and contrast the differences between the two applications.
Presented by KHS and KGS, the free Family-History Workshop series takes place each month at the Center for Kentucky History. Topics range from how to begin documenting your ancestry to specialized resources for experienced genealogists. If requested at the time of registration, an optional light lunch is available at a cost of $6, payable at the door.
