| Frankfort, Ky. (February 16, 2004) – On Thursday, February 26, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., the halls of the state’s capitol will be filled with exhibits, hands-on activities and colorful displays of the commonwealth’s museums and historic sites during Kentucky Museum and History Day, returning after its debut in 2002.
This special day will feature exhibits from more than 20 counties, which represents only a sampling of Kentucky’s 430 museums and history organizations that serve almost six million visitors a year. The public and legislature alike will get a glimpse of Kentucky historic sites, take an up-close look at museum artifacts and enjoy a performance by the Kentucky Historical Society Museum Theatre. Genealogy societies will showcase their research resources, and costumed historical reenactors will bring history to life.
“The first event held in 2002 was a great success,” says Bobbie Gothard of the Kentucky Coal Museum, who will be returning again this year. “It was a wonderful time for legislators and the public to view history projects and activities from museums around the commonwealth.”
Kentucky Museum and History Day is sponsored by the Kentucky Historical Society, Historical Confederation of Kentucky and Kentucky Association of Museums. For more information about this event, call Kate Hesseldenz at (502) 564-1792, ext. 4477.
