KET, WYMT to provide special all-day coverage of second annual summit

FRANKFORT, Ky. – Two Kentucky media outlets will offer citizens across the Commonwealth, a front-row seat to the second annual SOAR (Shaping Our Appalachian Region) Summit next Monday, Feb. 16 in Pikeville.  KET and WYMT will be providing all-day coverage of the second annual summit, both live via television broadcast and online. 

Live coverage of the summit will air on KET KY channel and online at www.ket.org/live, as well as on WYMT-TV (CBS) and www.wymt.com from 9/8 a.m. to 5/4 p.m. 

The coverage will feature general sessions and discussions from the main auditorium, including remarks from guest speakers U.S. Labor Secretary Thomas E. Perez and Michael Botticelli, acting director of the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy

Each network will also be airing special programming on Monday evening to showcase highlights from the summit and interviews with Gov. Steve Beshear, Congressman Hal Rogers and SOAR Executive Director Jared Arnett. 

  • KET’s special broadcast of “Shaping Our Appalachian Region:  SOAR Summit 2015” with hosts Bill Goodman and Renee Shaw, will air at 8/7 p.m.
     
  • WYMT will broadcast their 6 p.m. newscast live from the Pikeville Expo Center and will air a special SOAR edition of “Issues and Answers” with host Neil Middleton at 7 p.m.

Middleton will also be serving as moderator for two general session panels featuring SOAR federal and legislative partners. 

Gov. Steve Beshear and U.S. Rep. Hal Rogers began the SOAR initiative in late 2013 to address economic issues in the region, build on strengths and find community-generated solutions to chronic challenges. Breakout sessions will offer participants information on tourism as an economic driver, recruiting industry and building entrepreneurship, coding, local food, community health and much more.
