FRANKFORT, Ky. – “As we celebrate the life, vision and accomplishments of civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., let us not forget that his legacy lives on through all of us.

He believed that everyone – no matter their race, creed, color or disability – deserved the opportunity for a successful life. So do we, and that presents us with a challenge that we must answer. Every child, regardless of whether he or she is born in the suburbs, on a farm, in the inner city or in a mountain hollow, deserves a chance at a life of promise and meaning.  Let’s honor his vision today, and every day.”

Gov. Beshear urges Kentuckians to celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day by participating in a day of service through volunteer opportunities. To find one of the many opportunities listed in Kentucky, visit http://www.mlkday.gov.
