Governor Beshear Orders Flags to Half-staff on Sept. 9
FRANKFORT, Ky. – Gov. Steve Beshear has directed that flags at all state office buildings be lowered to half-staff today, Sept. 9, 2011 in honor of a Fort Campbell soldier who died while supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.
According to the Department of Defense, Spc. Michael C. Roberts, 23, of Watauga, Texas, died Aug. 27 in Kandahar province, Afghanistan, of injuries suffered when insurgents attacked his unit using an improvised explosive device. He was assigned to the 561st Military Police Company, 716th Military Police Battalion, 101st Sustainment Brigade, Fort Campbell, Ky.
Funeral services for Spc. Roberts will held today at 11 a.m. Central time at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church in Keller, Texas. Burial services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Central time at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery. Gov. Beshear encourages individuals, businesses, organizations and government agencies to join in this tribute.
